Te Deum Photo Archives: Palm Sunday 2008 (1962 Missal)

Palm Sunday is coming up on us quickly, leading into Holy Week.  There is one more talk by Fr. Perrone during the lenten Friday Monastic Suppers.  The supper will be held on Good Friday, but there will be no talk due to the lengthy devotions and preparations for the Easter Vigil.  Also, I've learned that those going to Communion on Holy Thursday are in for a bit of a surprise.  Hint: What is old will be new again.... again.

And last, but not least, see my write up on the new effort underway for all US Bishops:  Rosary for a Bishop.  Truly, just read it and then go look at the stats on your bishop - how many people are praying for him.  Can you pray at least one Rosary a month for a particular bishop?  Then find him in the list and join the effort. Many graces will come to our shepherds through our prayers. 

Bloggers can add "badges" for any bishop.  In my sidebar is a "badge" for Archbishop Vigneron and it shows the number of people who have signed up to pray for him.  Can we do better?  Some bishops have nearly 500 people praying for them, but the news obviously circulated in those cities and is just beginning to trickle out here, and in other cities. 

Note to Assumption Grotto parishioners:  You will find not find "Assumption Grotto".  Rather, you need to type in Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary after choosing the Archdiocese of Detroit.

The beautiful gold chasuble, bearing the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (2006), awaits vesting by one of the priests. It is used at all four Masses by the celebrant on Assumption Day (6:30am, 9:30am, Noon, and 7:00pm).

Come to Assumption Grotto on Assumption Day. Don't let the fact that it is not a holy day of obligation this year, stop you from honoring the Blessed Mother. Archbishop Vigneron and concelebrants will have the evening 7:00pm Mass. Fr. Perrone will be conducting the Assumption Grotto Choir and Orchestra in Mozart's Coronation Mass. A candlelight procession will follow the Mass out to the Grotto (around 9:15), where hymns to Mary will be sung until around 10:00. Corpus Christi, Helpers Vigil, and Recent Posts

Sunday: Corpus Christi at Assumption Grotto

This video above was made ahead of last year's Corpus Christi, so the date at the end is no longer valid. Assumption Grotto will hold it's annual Corpus Christi Procession following the Noon orchestral Mass this Sunday. An Italian dinner will be available afterwards in the school gym for a free-will offering.

Saturday: Helpers of God's Precious Infants Vigil

Also, this Saturday is the Helper's of God's Precious Infants Prayer Vigil. See more in this post: Detroit - Helpers Prayer Vigil with Msgr. Philip J. Reilly - founder of Helpers of God's Precious Infants. I have heard Monsignor Reilly speak and if you have ever been hesitant to do pro-life work, you will want to hear this priest speak. It has been several years since he has been to Detroit, so now is the time to attend. Teresa Tomeo interviewed Monsignor Reilly just yesterday and you can listen to the archived audio at Ave Maria Radio.

Tomorrow: Passio Domini at Grotto

This is also a good time to remind local readers about the Thursday night Passio Domini at Assumption Grotto which begins with Holy Mass at 7:00pm, and follows with Exposition, meditations and Rosary until 9:00pm. It is not a time that we look for something from God - like good feelings and consolations, but a time that we give ourselves entirely to God, for his sake, while meditating on his passion.

Today: Abp Carlson's Installation in St. Louis

One final note: Bishop Carlson, formerly of nearby Saginaw, is being installed this morning as the new Archbishop of St. Louis. The Archdiocese of St. Louis will be twittering, and is providing a live feed online of the installation (go to the diocesn website and scroll down for links to live video feed). I understand it will be broadcast on EWTN, as well. Tom Peters, the American Papist, is also Twittering from St. Louis during the installation.

Ash Wednesday, 2009

Today is Ash Wednesday, a day of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. Assumption Grotto's 7:00pm Mass will feature the choir, which normally rehearses on Wednesday night. As is typical in penitential seasons though, any and all music will be greatly subdued, with less organ.

A painting of St. Bernadette by Assumption Grotto parishioner and artist, Jerome Rochon. I was asked to photograph the painting by Fr. Perrone who has made holy cards of the painting which will be available soon in the Grotto Gift Shop. It was intended to be done prior to Feb 11th, but better late than never.

A photo taken on January 2nd during First Friday devotions. Adoration takes place in the main parish church following the 7:30am Mass through 6:40pm in preparation for the 7:00pm Mass. Adoration is available Monday thru Saturday at the convent chapel.

Noteworthy: 6:30am Daily Tridentine added to Grotto's Schedule... and, it will now be included on Saturday mornings. A few more people have discovered the treasure of an early morning Mass and we are now seeing around 12-15 people regular (about comparable to the old 8:30 timeslot which was recently suspended). Several are of the working class whose only option was the 7:00pm Mass. I have noticed that as people get use to the schedule they are trying to get there earlier for pre-Mass devotions and time before the Blessed Sacrament.
