Hilarious Video: Uzbeks experiencing an escalator for the first time

As pointed out in the UK's Daily Mail article, it's been over 100 years since the first people stepped on to an escalator in New York.  The video clip below shows the confusion some people in Uzbekistan have when encountering it for the first time in a shopping center.  The young children seem to have less of a problem than the adults who seem to get disoriented, wanting to fall back.  Have a look.  Reportedly no one was hurt.  There was a stop button that kept getting pressed.

Saturday Morning Fun Flick

I just finished up some work I had to do for Grotto which delayed my Catholics in the Combox post slated for earlier this week. I should have it posted Tuesday barring a power outage or something. Readership is always down on holiday weekends anyway, so it seemed right to schedule it for after Monday.

For now, have one last look at some summer fun!

LOL - Things I owe my parents...

The Marsham Children, 1787 | Thomas Gainsborough

Thanks to my fellow parishioner and friend, Nancy, for pointing me to this:

1. My Parents taught me TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE .
"If you're going to kill each other, do it outside.. I just finished cleaning."

2. My Parents taught me RELIGION.
"You better pray that will come out of the carpet."

3. My Parents taught me about TIME TRAVEL.
"If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!"

4. My Parents taught me LOGIC.
" Because I said so, that's why."

5. My Parents taught me MORE LOGIC .
"If you fall out of that swing and break your neck, you're not going to the store with me."

6. My Parents taught me FORESIGHT.
"Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident."

7. My Parents taught me IRONY.
"Keep crying, and I'll give you something to cry about."

8. My Parents taught me about the science of OSMOSIS.
"Shut your mouth and eat your supper."

9. My Parents taught me about CONTORTIONISM.
"Will you look at that dirt on the back of your neck!"

10. My Parents taught me about STAMINA.
"You'll sit there until all that spinach is gone."

11. My Parents taught me about WEATHER.
"This room of yours looks as if a tornado went through it."

12. My Parents taught me about HYPOCRISY.
"If I told you once, I've told you a million times. Don't exaggerate!"

Saturday Morning Fun Flick - Swimming with Jellyfish

Veil-tip to NewAdvent

I wrote a post entitled, "A beached jellyfish teaches a spiritual lesson", not that long ago after returning from a vacation in South Carolina.  I found this video especially endearing.

Here is another, very fine video by Sarosh Jacob.  This one is quite majestic and is called, "Ocean".

Saturday Morning Fun Flicks ... The bulldog and baby orangutan; and a cold piglet

It's time for a little comedy-relief. I like browsing some of the videos at YouTube. A couple of videos by the same maker caught my attention.

There may be a brief commercial of a few seconds.

The first, is about a bulldog and baby orangutan

This next one really made me chuckle. So many piglets that the body temp of some can drop too low if they cannot get close to mom.

Father Leo Patalinghug vs. Chef Bobby Flay

Father Leo Patalinghug of Grace Before Meals at the 2009 Lenten Symposium - Christ Our Hope, held at Sts Cyril & Methodius in Sterling Heights this past Lent

If you have ever watched Food Network TV, you have probably seen Throwdown with Bobby Flay in which he secretly comes into town and challenges a local reputable chef. Often the people challenged are ordinary folk who own or work in small diners. However, in a recent show, Bobby Flay challenged Fr. Leo to a Fajita throwdown.

It will re-air Sunday night, September 20th at 11:00pm Eastern and a few hours later on the 21st at 2:00am Eastern. This is a good opportunity to record if you have that capability.

You can follow Fr. Leo on his Grace Before Meals blog.
See all of my photos from the 2009 Lenten Symposium - Christ Our Hope at my Smugmug site. Other speakers included Mother Dolores Hart, Father John Trigilio of EWTN, and more.
