Photopost: Family of Terry Schiavo leads reflection at Assumption Grotto

Click pic to visit terrisfight.org

This past Sunday, the family of Terri Schiavo - her brother, Bobby Schindler; mother, Mary; and her sister Suzanne Schindler Vitadamo - offered reflections using the Stations of the Cross on "Overcoming Suffering".

This is something that they offer during Lent and there is no doubt that those in attendance were moved deeply by their humble reflections.   Devotions weaved into it were among the most timeless, referencing the Blessed Virgin Mary throughout. You can request them to speak at your parish or event (see details here), but these specific meditations are only scheduled during Lent.

I myself was moved by their humility and their application of the most basic Christian principles to the fight for Terri's life, and her following her death, from abandoning themselves to the will of God to forgiveness. Now they work to teach and enlighten others.

Here are some photos taken during the event which followed the Noon Mass on April 10, 2011.

In the first pic, Fr. Perrone, Grotto's pastor, welcomes the Schindler family.

Family of Terry Schiavo coming to Grotto (April 10) - Topic: Overcoming Suffering

The family of Terry Schiavo is coming to metro Detroit.  On April 9th, they will hold a conference following the 5:00pm Holy Mass at Our Lady of Refuge in Orchard Lake, and on April 10th, they will come to Assumption Grotto to speak after the Noon Mass

I suppose this is a good time to point out that Assumption Grotto offers barbequed hot dogs, hamburgers and sauages following the 9:30am and Noon Masses most weekends, along with the usual coffee and donuts (we make it a point to socialize after Mass so we aren't tempted to do it in Church!)

Scroll down on this page for details: http://assumptiongrotto.com/pastor.htm [please email me at TeDeumBlog (at) gmail (dot) com if you do not find the flyer by scrolling down on that page - it may change over when the next bulletin is released]

Here are some closeups of the flyer for now:

UK Rationed Health Care: Premie refused health care & left to die because he was 2 days shy of govt deadline

Blog this! Twitter this! Facebook-it! Send it to any news sources and news anchors who will talk about it. This is the kind of thing that will be happening in our country if Obama's Health Care head policy advisor, Ezekiel Emanuel has his way.

GORLESTON, UK, September 9, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A young British mother has criticized medical guidelines that, she said, resulted in doctors refusing treatment and leaving her newborn premature son to die. 23 year-old Sarah Capewell told media that her son Jayden, born at 21 weeks and five days gestation, was refused intensive care because he was two days under the limit set by the British government's National Health Service (NHS) rationing guidelines.

Capewell said that her son Jayden cried and lived for two hours before dying in her arms. During that time, his mother took photos of him and pleaded with doctors that he be admitted to the special baby unit at James Paget University Hospital (JPH). Staff at the hospital, in Gorleston, Norfolk, told her that had Jayden been born two days later they would have helped him.

Since her son's death, Capewell has launched an internet campaign to change the guidelines and says that she has received messages of support from around the world.

Health care rationing guidelines set down by the Nuffield Council on Bioethics in 2006 say that intensive care should never be given to babies below 22 weeks gestation, and rarely to those below 23 weeks. In secular bioethics, this is called Futile Care Theory, which holds that in cases where there is no hope for improvement of an incapacitating condition, such as extreme prematurity, no treatment should be offered.

Again, get the word out on this and storm the news sources until they cannot ignore the story any longer.

Obama health care policy advisor on killing young babies and children along with the very old

Team Obama is working overtime trying to convince the American public that euthanasia is not part of the health care reform bill. Just to be clear: Euthanasia = killing. Withdrawing care can be a form of euthanasia in certain cases, like when the government thinks your life is not as valuable as someone elses.

It's interesting to note that his health care policy advisor, Ezekiel Emanual, brother of Rahm Emanual (Chief of Staff), believes there are times when young babies, toddlers, and even young children should be sacrificed over those who are in somewhat older age brackets. It's called allocating scarce medical interventions. He should know about it because he wrote the paper on it.

Apparently, such sick thinking is not news to some most news outlets. Perhaps they are worried about the White House Snitch Brigade.

I found the piece I was looking for on a PAC website, but it contains the relevant quotes from the medical journal in which it was published (cited in the article). The journal article is availble online, but you may have to subscribe or pay for it.

This is the scariest stuff I have seen to date. And President Obama does not want us to be scared when he has someone like this advising him on health care?

Have a seat near a table so that something can catch your jaw when it drops. I'm still nursing a bruise on mine when it fell to the floor.

As Regime Began, Emanuel Said Elderly and Infants Are to Die

July 30, 2009 (LPAC)—Obama health-care policy advisor Ezekiel Emanuel announced a new "Complete Lives System" for selecting which sections of the population should be killed, in his article "Principles for Allocation of Scarce Medical Interventions."

Published Jan. 31, 2009 in the British medical journal Lancet, Emanuel's euthansia-selection article appeared 11 days after President Obama's inauguration. Then on March 19, Emanuel was appointed to the Federal Coordinating Council on Comparative Effectiveness Research, to begin the design of a Federal system for withdrawing care from those chosen for death.

Though written in bloodless academic language, Emanuel's discourse most closely resembles one of Adolf Hitler's rambling pronouncements as know-it-all Fuehrer.

Emanuel sums up who is to be treated, and who is to die:

"When implemented, the complete lives system produces a priority curve on which individuals aged between roughly 15 and 40 years get the most substantial chance, whereas the youngest and oldest people get chances that are attenuated." This may be justified by public opinion, since "broad consensus favours adolescents over very young infants, and young adults over very elderly people."

Emanuel decrees that we must not kill only the elderly, but also infants. [remember, this is Obama's hand-picked health care policy advisor!!!]

"Strict youngest-first allocation directs scarce resources predominantly to infants. This approach seems incorrect. The death of a 20-year-old woman is intuitively worse than that of a 2-month-old girl, even though the baby has had less life The 20-year-old has a much more developed personality than the infant, and has drawn upon the investment of others to begin as-yet-unfulfilled projects.... Adolescents have received substantial substantial education and parental care, investments that will be wasted without a complete life. Infants, by contrast, have not yet received these investments.... It is terrible when an infant dies, but worse, most people think, when a three-year-old child dies, and worse still when an adolescent does."

Huh?!?!?!? Has he lost his mind? Have we learned nothing from world history about this kind of thinking? How is it not relevant to the discussion that this man is advising Obama on health care policy? I just heard it on Fox and readily found the actual journal article online, so it is not some conspiracy theory. Has anyone seen this kind of info on CNN, MSNBC, or CBS and affiliates??? Where is AP, Reuters, the New York Times, and USA Today? Obama has a mad-man behind this health care reform initiative, its visible in the public domain, and most news sources don't see it as news.

This is only the tip of the iceberg on the thought processes of those who are advising Obama. It is why we should all be very concerned about any health care initiative Democrats are trying to race through the system.

Is it any wonder why Fox has more viewers tuning in than CNN and MSNBC together???

Even Ed Koch is concerned with Obamacare

I'm not a fan of Ed Koch, but he wrote a pretty darn good article on the current health care reform initiative. Here is an excerpt (emphases mine in bold):

The President, I believe, has said that there will be no restrictions on private insurance coverage, other than to expand that coverage for all by, for example, denying the insurance companies the right to reject persons with prior existing medical conditions. But he has not spoken loudly enough, nor has there been any discussion on the premiums that companies will be able to charge in such cases.

Most alarming for people like me, who at 84 years of age recently needed a quadruple bypass and aortic valve replacement, are the pronouncements of President Obama's appointee, Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, brother of Obama's Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who, according to a New York Post op ed article by Betsy McCauley, former Lt. Governor of the State of New York, stated, "Savings, he writes, will require changing how doctors think about their patients: Doctors take the Hippocratic Oath too seriously, 'as an imperative to do everything for the patient regardless of the cost or effects on others' (Journal of the American Medical Association, June 18, 2008)." He also stated, "...communitarianism' should guide decisions on who gets care. He says medical care should be reserved for the non-disabled, not given to those 'who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens...An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia.' (Hastings Center Report, Nov.-Dec. '96). "

Opponents of Obama's health care proposals raise the specter of a panel making decisions on who should receive health care. I am not aware of any proposed panel. However, an article in today's New York Times, referring to a Senate bill, stated, "The legislation could have significant implications for individuals who have bought coverage on their own. Their policies might be exempted from the new standards, but the coverage might not be viable for long because insurers could not add benefits or enroll additional people in noncompliant policies."

So, where lies the truth? I don't know. But I do know that I want the continued right to purchase and have available insurance that will permit me, no matter my age and physical condition, to purchase with my own money all the medical care I can afford.

Lifesite: Italy's "Terry Schiavo" dies suddenly

Eluana Enlaro, the woman at the center of a case similar to that of Terry Schiavo has suddenly died. From Lifesite:

Italy's "Terri Schiavo" Dies Suddenly

By Matthew Cullinan Hofman

ROME, February 9, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Eluana Englaro, Italy's "Terri Schiavo," has died only four days after doctors began a "gradual" reduction in her food and water intake with the intent to cause her death.

The announcement was made by Italy's Health Minister on the floor of the Italian Senate, which was debating a bill that would have saved Englaro's life.

Although no cause of death has been announced, earlier news reports indicated that Englaro's intake of nutrients was being replaced with a heavy dose of sedatives. Palliative medication in high doses can cause a patient to die prematurely.

The news follows public statements by Englaro's physician that she has enjoyed almost perfect physical health during the 16 years following her car accident in 1992, which left her bedridden and in a minimal state of consciousness. She was 38 years old.

Heroic Stand by the Grand Duke of Luxemborg

H/T to Rocco Palmo on this story out of Luxemborg where Grand Duke Henri - a Catholic, is aiming to veto a euthanasia bill, all the while lawmakers are preparing to strip him of his veto power.
It's a sad story of the times where many people in powerful positions will have to follow their well-formed conscience and accept the worldly consequences. From Spiegal Online:

Grand Duke of Luxembourg Will Lose His Veto

Luxembourg's parliament looks ready to strip the Grand Duke of his last lawmaking power as a controversy over euthanasia comes to a head. One of Europe's last royals with political sway may lose his formal veto by taking a stand against a law legalizing euthanasia.

The Grand Duke of Luxembourg, who has said he would interfere with a decision by parliament, will likely be stripped of his veto in a historic decision after a heated showdown over a bill to legalize euthanasia.

Grand Duke Henri of Luxembourg protested the bill and threatened to kill it next week by refusing to sign it into law.

"I understand the Grand Duke's problems of conscience," said Juncker, "but I believe that if the parliament votes in a law, it must be brought into force."

The euthanasia bill has been controversial since 2001. It would let patients with "grave and incurable" conditions die at the hands of a doctor if they ask repeatedly to be euthanized and earn the consent of two doctors and a panel of experts. Medical and physician groups have opposed the bill, though, and so have many citizens of this traditionally Catholic nation.

It follows similar laws in the Netherlands and Belgium, where King Baudouin -- Henri's uncle -- abdicated for a day in 1990 to avoid signing a Belgian abortion law. The current Belgian king, Albert II, has signed Belgium's recent euthanasia and homosexual-marriage laws over his private Catholic beliefs.

The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is a constitutional monarchy, and the Grand Duke is its head of state. He has indicated that he won't stand in the way of any change to the constitution.

I'm wondering how many of those lawmakers in parliament working to strip the Grand Duke of his veto power are Catholics.

Rocco notes something else in his blogpost:

The incident evokes echoes of Belgium in 1990, when the late King Baudouin I abdicated his throne for a day in objection to a measure placed before him loosening restrictions on abortions. The government temporarily assumed the king's powers, and enacted the law in his stead. Earlier this year, Baudouin's widow Queen Fabiolarevealed that she had suffered five miscarriages; the couple remained childless. The famously-devout Belgian sovereign -- the last person to receive the top honor of papal knighthood, the Supreme Order of Christ -- was Henri's uncle.

Is Lauren Richardson the next Terry Schiavo?

I just heard about this case while listening to a rebroadcast of the Drew Mariani Show on Relevant Radio's archives (May 9, 2008). Indeed, it seems we have another Terry Schiavo-like case in full blown development. This time it is a father pitted against a mother who wants to end the girl's life.

See the site, Life for Lauren, for details and how you can help.

I found this article from back in February of 2008 discussing the matter....
