Well, he is still with us, and is giving us a rather impromptu Day of Recollection in the parish school lounge after the noon Mass, with a little buffer time to grab a hot dog or hamburger in the gym, following Benediction in the Grotto (weather permitting).
Here are the details:
DAY OF RECOLLECTION
OPUS SANCTORUM ANGELORUM
Sunday, July 9th, 2006
2PM - 5PM
Assumption Grotto Parish
13800 Gratiot Ave, Detroit (313) 527-1739
"THE ANGELS AND MISSION"
Preached by Fr. Basil Nortz, ORC
Every Catholic is called to participate in the missionary mandate of the Church. This does not mean necessarily that we must go to a third world country to preach the Gospel. EAch of us, in his own state of life, can fulfill our vocation to mission. But the Church teaches that each of us has an angel at our side, not only as a protector and shepherd leading us to heaven (cf. CCC 336), but also as a companion helping us to live out our vocation in the Church and in the world.
Ahhhhhh - the pleasures of being a parishioner at Assumption Grotto. I know I speak for all parishioners when voicing apprecation for all the Holy Cross fathers do for us at our parish. Not only do they provide these "Days of Recollection" several times yearly, but they always seem to be in the confessional, waiting for a repenting soul, whenever an event brings people. Because they fly around the States and the world doing retreats, we know they can't always be there in numbers, but they truly give us so much when they are there.
I don't know if it will be the case this Sunday, but typically when we have one of these, it is followed by a brief time of Adoration in the Church, most often with an opportunity for confession during th period of Adoration. However, confession will be readily available before the 9:30 and noon Masses. It ends around 4:45-5:00pm with Benediction.
When advertised in advance, Grotto packs these things in. Why not take a Sunday afternoon and spend it in a mini-retreat!
It's open to non parishioners, as well.
