Tom Peters has a post up with links to other posts and articles containing reaction from various people to the Pope's address to the USCCB in which he acknowledged that the sex abuse scandal had been "handled poorly by some bishops".
Remember, up until a few weeks ago, this was meant to be an "off-the-record, private meeting with the bishops", according to Raymond Arroyo of EWTN. But, reports Arroyo, several sources told him the Holy Father wanted the public to hear what he had to say through his own mouth, not from the mouths of a few bishops. I think the Pope learned well how his message can get sanitized when it comes through some members of the USCCB with regards to what he communicated on politicians and Holy Communion and what certain bishops communicated about the message.
What will be interesting is how the case of Nancy Pelosi, D-California, is handled. Ms. Pelosi said that she plans on attending Mass and will present herself for Communion. Hopefully, the Holy Father has been made aware.
