Pelosi gets schooled by the Pope

I decided to come home to post this news during my lunch hour since it was, well.....hot. I'm eating lunch as I'm posting and my keyboard will never be the same.

I suspect this news has something to do with the delay in the announcement of Archbishop Dolan to the New York throne. If the Vatican had dropped that announcement the secular press would have been all over it for a couple of days, and the news that broke today would have been diffused. Rumor has it that Abp Dolan is "vacationing" in the Big Apple, so we know the announcement is coming soon....very soon. Friday would be best, in order to let this news on Nancy Pelosi to circulate well.

PELOSI AND THE POPE

There has been a ruckus for the past week or so after it was learned that the Holy Father granted Nancy Pelosi access to a general audience. It was thought by many, that she would use it as another photo-op (like this one last year) to make her look catholic enough for the population soaking up their secular news.

The other day, I told you that Human Life International was planning to brief Pope Benedict XVI on her dismal record in support of the culture-of-death.

But, the Holy Father, far wiser than the arm-chair "popes" we ordinary Catholics can be, opened his doors when he learned she would be in town and Ms. Pelosi partipated in the general audience. However, it is what happened next that has created such a buzz on the net.

He took Nancy Pelosi to the woodshed aside, with her entourage, and schooled her on the Church's position on matters pertaining to life, and then released this press statement (emphases mine in bold; comments bracketed in red):

Following the General Audience the Holy Father briefly greeted Mrs Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, together with her entourage [exactly.....witnesses....why permit a situation where it becomes his word against hers. Watch what she does in her own press release, as an example].

His Holiness took the opportunity to speak of the requirements of the natural moral law and the Church’s consistent teaching on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death which enjoin all Catholics, and especially legislators, jurists and those responsible for the common good of society, to work in cooperation with all men and women of good will in creating a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development.
There is something of importance to note...

THE HOLY FATHER ALLOWED NO PRESS OR CAMERAS!

Wise, because the photo in the link I provided above has been exploited!!! He didn't give her a chance to do that this time.

What was Pelosi's reaction? Through her spokesman, she spun offered this about the meeting (source Catholic News Service):

In a statement released by her staff, Pelosi said, "In our conversation, I had the opportunity to praise the church's leadership in fighting poverty, hunger and global warming, as well as the Holy Father's dedication to religious freedom and his upcoming trip and message to Israel." The papal trip is scheduled for the second week of May.

Pelosi also said, "I was proud to show His Holiness a photograph" from a papal audience she had with her parents in the 1950s, "as well as a recent picture of our children and grandchildren." Pelosi's husband, Paul, accompanied her to the meeting with the pope.
