A Drill Sargent as a Psychiatrist?

Don't ask me why, but this video of "Gunny" Lee Ermey - a former drill instructor in the U.S. Marines who later went on to an acting career after injuries led to a medical discharge after 11 years of service...cracks me up.

It's probably become my favorite Geico Commercial (I know, I'm giving them free advertisement with this post).  If you haven't seen it, you are either going to love it or hate it.

My wife hates it when I turn up the volume when this spot comes on. It's so perfectly casted and acted. So simple, but so effective. Thanks for telling me what I suspected, he really WAS an D.I. in his former life.

Oh, yeah... did tours in Vietnam and in Okinawa, as well. Injuries forced him into a medical discharge after 11 or 12 years. He was given the designation, Gunnery Sargent after his discharge.

Here is his wikipedia page.

I know a guy who actually served under him and holds him in high regard and with great affection. Sometimes these types who appear rough around the edges are big softies in real life.

It's too bad the guy in the chair crying his eyes out wasn't lamenting the loss of bad liturgical translations.
