Dawn Eden is Coming to Metro-Detroit; and, to Assumption Grotto

I am very glad to announce that Dawn Eden is coming to metro-Detroit May 17th - 23rd to discuss her new book, My Peace I Give You: Healing Sexual Wounds With the Help of the Saints.  Assumption Grotto will be among her stops where she will speak in the school lounge at the standard conference time of 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 18th.  Grotto-goers love Sunday afternoon conferences and this one is sure to be informative.  It is for adults only.   Further down this post will be a list of places to see Dawn while she is in the area and there will be opportunities for book signings.  Please support these venues by purchasing your book when you visit.

I have read, "My Peace I Give You: Healing Sexual Wounds with the Help of the Saints," and I think it would be a mistake to dismiss this if you have never suffered from some form of sexual abuse.  The book is for everyone.  I myself never suffered from any such trauma; but, I know people who have suffered and I'm very glad to know about this book so I can refer it to others in the future.  Also, I found, "My Peace I Give You," helpful to me personally with other forms of suffering.

Dawn speaks from personal experience, having suffered herself as a child.  Taking the high-road on this, Dawn does not go into any greater detail than is necessary to help the reader understand the emotional and spiritual challenges that face those who were abused.  But, she does not leave us there and this is where the book blossoms.  She shares her faith journey using the lives of the saints as a guide.  Those saints chosen for the book suffered some form of trauma, especially in childhood.  I was quite surprised to learn of some of these things. She also introduces us to some of the lesser known saints and blesseds.  How did they respond?  Dawn carefully navigates some delicate pathways to help victims avoid common pitfalls that can come from reading stories of extraordinary virtue in the lives of the saints.

Background Info on Dawn

About Dawn Eden:

Dawn Eden is the author of My Peace I Give You: Healing Sexual Wounds with the Help of the Saints (Ave Maria Press, 2012) and The Thrill of the Chaste: Finding Fulfillment While Keeping Your Clothes On (Thomas Nelson, 2012).
Born into a Jewish family in New York City, Dawn lost her faith as a teenager and became agnostic. During her twenties, in the 1990s, she was a rock historian, interviewing artists such as Elton John, Brian Wilson, and Del Shannon. She went on to work on the editorial staff for New York City newspapers, including the New York Post and the Daily News.

When Dawn was thirty-one, she experienced a dramatic conversion to Christianity that ultimately led her to enter the Catholic Church. Her first book, The Thrill of the Chaste (2006), became a surprise hit, published in four languages and earning her speaking invitations throughout North America, as well as in England, Ireland, Poland, and at World Youth Day Sydney. (She holds the honor of being the only chastity speaker ever to have been invited back to speak for a second time at Georgetown University.)

In her new book My Peace I Give Youwhich carries an Imprimatur from Donald Cardinal Wuerl, Dawn offers a Catholic spirituality of healing for adult victims of childhood sexual abuse. She holds a master's degree in theology from the Pontifical Faculty of the Immaculate Conception at Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C., and is currently continuing her studies toward a doctorate.
