Metro Detroit this weekend: Pilgrimage for Christian Culture 2011

From the inbox:
For the third year in a row, our group of young adults is organizing a local pilgrimage in the southeast Michigan area.  - This time around, we'll be walking and praying along Woodward from Pontiac to Detroit over the course of next Friday and Saturday (spending Friday night at Shrine of the Little Flower).

See the homepage with much more information: Pilgrimage for Christian Culture

The first part of a movie concerning last year's pilgrimage (featuring, among other, Fr. Paul Ward) can be viewed at this link: http://vimeo.com/25054088

There is a place on Facebook to register for Day 1 and Day 2.  Deadline is coming up quick.

Paderborn, Germany: St. Liborius - Traditional Processions and a Flabellum

This is liturgical eye-candy at it's best. The New Liturgical Movement's German correspondent, Gregor Kollmorgen, has an extensive photostory on a special celebration in Paderborn, Germany related to St. Liborious.

Gregor explains who he is and then goes into how the procession and things seen, have evolved. It is a fascinating read.

You have to visit NLM to see the post. I recommend reading especially about the flabellum made of peacock feathers (right), and the very old shrine that is carried (above). See his post (link below) why peacock feathers are used.

Gregor explains: In the new calendar, St. Liborius is only celebrated in the German-speaking countries, and some specific dioceses and places, but in the EF, he is celebrated worldwide at least with a commemoration today.
We have such a treasury of things to be explored in the Catholic faith. How much easier it is now that Pope Benedict XVI has opened the doors to the pre-Vatican II Mass

Many of the pictures seen at NLM are from this site and if you speak German, there is plenty to explore there

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel - Wyandotte: May Day 2007

I'm waiting on some information for Call to Holiness audio and once I get it, will make a post. I will also be continuing with that series soon, in bewteen other posts I've been wanting to get out, including this one.

Reader Debbie sent me these photos of the May Day 2007 procession taken at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel in Wyandotte, site of the Call the Holiness 2007 conference on the West side.

You gotta love the Birettas!

In the first pic is Deacon Richard Bloomfield on the left, and the OLMC Pastor, Rev. Walter Ptak.

Holy Thursday 2007

I won't spend too much time blogging over these next few days, but I will try to post a few pictures. I will probably continue making photo posts well past Easter with what I get, but I would like to show a little of each of the days first. This also minizes my blogging during these sacred days.

Holy Thursday was grand. I got to Assumption Grotto at 6:30 and got one of the last parking places in the lot behind the Church. Within minutes, the lot next to the Rectory was filling quickly. The Church was packed by 7:00 with a few open seats near the rear.

The Elevation of the Chalice

After Mass, Fr. Perrone, cradling the Blessed Sacrament, processes through the church to the Altar of Repose, seen in the second photo below off to the left. After Fr. Perrone and the altar boys quickly and silently strip the Sanctuary of everything not bolted down, there is an opportunity to remain quietly with the Lord until Midnight.
