| Archbishop Vigneron concelebrates a special morning Mass, followed by veneration of the relic of St. Theotonius on the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows at Assumption Grotto |
On this feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, Archbishop Vigneron came to Assumption Grotto to celebrate a special Mass at 9:00 AM. A relic of St. Theotonius arrived at the parish on September 13th and will be venerated through Sunday. St. Theotonius is the co-founder of the Order of Canons Regular of the Holy Cross (ORC).
The Mass was a Latin Novus Ordo, concelebrated ad orientem. You can see in these pictures how the sanctuary looks now with the low altar recently removed. There is a portable table altar that can be used, but Archbishop Vigneron has celebrated the high altar previously. He seems very comfortable at the high altar and his latin is pleasing to the ears. The archbishop also exercised certain options familiar to Grotto-goers, like having the offertory gifts already in the sanctuary and not inviting the people to share a sign of peace. Not to be confused with being "stuffy," the people of the parish prefer it this way as it allows the focus to remain on God to Whom the prayers are directed. Many are unaware that these are legitimate options a celebrant can choose.
Tomorrow at Noon, Father John Eudes, ORC will celebrate his First Mass. He will offer First Blessings in the school gym after Mass.
