Bishop Salvatore Joseph Cordileone named Bishop of Oakland. Next up: St. Louis

The Pope has named San Diego auxiliary bishop, Salvatore Joseph Cordileone to the Oakland, California diocese which recently became vacant when Archbishop Allen Vigneron was installed in Detroit a few months back.

The 52 year old has been an auxiliary bishop since 2002 for San Diego.

A few other brief notes I can mention on my lunch hour here:

  • He is a canonist who worked in the curia at the Apostolic Signatura which is friend, Archbishop Raymond L. Burke now heads.
  • He is vocally pro-life, pro-family, and pro-marriage (in the Catholic sense)
  • He is strongly supportive of the traditional Latin Mass, celebrating the Requiem in EF for a priest who died in the diocese.

More US Appointments?

According to Rocco's report at "Whispers" above, we should be seeing a replacement for Abp Raymond Burke who left St. Louis vacant when he was appointed to the Signatura. Stay tuned!

Of course, we are also keeping a close eye on Westminster in the UK - a very critical appointment. However long it takes for the Vatican to get it right is the most important, but let's pray it is sooner than later.

More later, perhaps tonight!
